LIGHT AND LOVE FOR THE CHOSEN

John 15:16 shows us Christ's love; "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.  Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."

Jesus made the first choice--to love and to die for us, to invite us to  live with Him forever.  We make the next  choice--to accept or reject His offer.  Without His choice first, we would  have no choice whatsoever; we would be lost.

How can we lose? Christ chose you and me!  It's quite wonderful to be chosen, and not just chosen between one or two, but to be chosen among many! I can't forget, as a little kid, how hard it was to accept being the last to be chosen for the games children play.  I was the smallest, and I was a girl and it hurt to wonder if I would be allowed on the team. But, for those of us who are not special to the many? We are special to Jesus.

Yet, I often ask myself, "Why me? Why would Jesus choose me?" I have no answer, but this:  I have no special gift to give Him or "fruit" to pick for Him.  I only know I need Him as I need air to breathe and I want to share with others a portion of the love that he has given to me.  I love the light He has shown me when I have felt lost. And the correction He has given me when I have erred.  He is the parent we all need, and the Most Holy Friend.  He is the complete story of Love.

When I "grow up," I want to be just like Him! And I pray he will light the way and lead me to that day!

Lord God, keep me close to you that I might know your Son more and more.  Help me to always remember that  He made a choice to love me and to die for me.  Help me to see His sacrifice so that I will be willing to give myself fully to love as He loved.  Amen.
