As I continued to read this morning about the life of Daniel in the land of Babylon, I was taken by his ability to interpret the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar, the king who reigned at that time. No one else knew what the dream of the king meant, but Daniel explained: The king was like a huge tree, and the tree was destroyed, leaving just the stump. Where animals had been nurtured by the green grass beneath this tree, the fruit of the tree, and the lovely leaves which adorned the tree, all were gone now, but the stump. A heavenly messenger came and told the king that this place, this stump would be himself, the King, and where he would live for a time, so he would learn to "renounce his sins by doing what is right, and change his wickedness by being kind to the oppressed." (Dan.4:27)
It makes one wonder how Daniel came to understand the meaning of dreams. Perhaps it was a gift from God. I have had dreams that I could hardly remember, let alone be able to interpret them! When my children were young, they used to tell their dreams at breakfast time. Even their dad had dreams! I suppose I had them, but very rarely remembered any. Dreams fascinate me and what they mean fascinates me even more.
As you have heard me say before, the book of JESUS CALLING, by Sarah Young has been a great benefit. This morning, having been interrupted quite early in my sleep, brought me to this book very early. Jesus says, by the words of Sarah Young, "Receive my peace, it is my continual gift to you. The best way to receive this gift is to sit quietly in my Presence, trusting Me in every area of your life. Quietness and trust accomplish far more than you can imagine: not only in you, but also on earth and in heaven. When you trust Me in a given area, you release that problem or person into My care." It seems to me this is an incredible gift to be given!
Perhaps, just possibly, Daniel knew about this gift of knowing more than it is usual to know by centering in on God with quietness and trust. Could it be possible? He came to have inner knowledge of the king's dream, and was not fearful of the king's hearing of it, even although the king was to be punished by this knowledge. It makes one wonder.......
JESUS CALLING goes on to say this: "Spending time alone with Me can be a difficult discipline because it goes against the activity addictions of this age. You may appear to be doing nothing, but you will actually be waging war--not with the weapons of the world but with heavenly weapons which have divine power to demolish strongholds. Living close to Me is a sure defense against evil."
What about this group in the east now which is intent on destruction? Can we fight them with spiritual warfare by holding them in the Presence of Jesus? Can we fight the murders we read in the newspapers by trusting God to stop the killing? Can we bring all evil shadows on earth and place them within the Presence of Jesus? I think God would be very pleased to have us remember His Son to be the giver of all goodness and to hold in His Divine Presence those who try to destroy His peace and Joy.
What manner of thinking does this old woman bring to you today? Perhaps I am way out of line.
But, what if this is what God is saying to me today!! See the evil in the world and put it under my umbrella! I have overcome the world, and can and will destroy this new evil.
We must all do our part. Let's be God's partners and hold evil under Jesus' care with our quietness and trust, with certainty of what God wants.
Again, thanks be to God!
