THE ONLY WAY...FAITH IN HIM!

From Hebrews 4:3, "The promises (of resting in God) didn't do them (the Israelites) a bit of good, because they didn't receive the promises with faith."  The writer of Hebrews gives an explanation of why the Israelites struggled so much with choosing God over pagan idols.  They never developed their faith to the place where they were able to receive God and God's promises. They never found how to rest in Him.

"What does resting in God mean.  Does it literally mean to rest, to sit down, get off your feet, rest your body?  Am I resting if I watch TV? or Reading?  Whether I'm sitting or standing, walking or whatever, I can rest in God.  But it takes my will to choose to turn from what I am reading or watching or thinking and rest in Him. I picture the Holy One as light that is whiter than the sun.  I think of Jesus, smiling, standing by me.  He has  watched and read that which I have watched and read. He is with me as I rest no matter if I am doing something or if I am in prayer. He is always there, in me and with me.  I am secure, connected to the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus in me.

But the will is willful, and doesn't always find its way to God, although God is always there.  God may sneak into my thoughts while I am watching TV or reading and I know He is there. It is up to me to recognize Him, to listen to His returning thoughts, to thank Him for His interest.   Sometimes, God sneaks  into my dreams and may give me an answer to a problem. Always, He waits to connect with us, waiting for each of us, trying to give us rest in Him.

God shows us as He tried to show the Israelites.  It takes faith in God to find Him in our rest.  Thank you, God, for teaching us that faith in You is the only way to go.
