John 16:26-28 tells us, "On that day, you will ask in my name. I do not say that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me nd have believed that I come from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world; again I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father."
Jesus is explaining to His disciples in plain language, not in any word pictures or figures of speech what is the truth. He came from God; sent by God for reconciliation and salvation. Now, He'll soon leave His earthly body and be once again with God, but in His leaving He's not leaving them alone. He will send the Holy Spirit to always be with them to explain all things and teach all things.
And so He will do for each of us. We can ask the Father in Jesus' name on our own without any human intermediary and God will hear us and answer us. When we ask in Jesus' name, we are praying in the very nature of the divine God. Because we have believed and loved, we have direct access to God.
Lord Jesus, what a wondrous gift I have received to call you my Lord, my Savior and my Friend! Thanks be to you, O God! Amen.
