FORGIVE OTHERS....AND YOURSELF

Luke 6: 36 and 37 tells us, "Be merciful, jut as your father is merciful....forgive and you will be forgiven."

Jesus teaches clearly that those who follow Him and wish to be His disciples must be merciful and forgiving.  Although he speaks here of our actions toward others, it is equally important to show these characteristics in action for ourselves.  Jesus knew that humans were not divine, yet he  calls us to a higher level than our normal human inclination would climb.  He says to show mercy and forgiveness to others and yourselves.  We can believe He expects those who follow Him to use His power to bring our behavior to a higher level both for the sake of others and for ourselves.

When I am slighted, wronged, criticized, or  taken advantage of, I must call on the Almighty Power of God in order to not retaliate and bear a grudge. If I slight another, criticize or take advantage, I must go to that person, and with the power of God, ask for forgiveness.  It is hard to do this, but with the power of God, it is possible, important, and necessary.

Lord Jesus, be with me each minute of each day to show love, mercy, and forgiveness both for myself and all others whom I  may encounter.  Help me to never hold a grudge, but freely let go of all of the hurt and despair I may try to hold both for others and myself. Forgive me for being quick to judge. And give me the freedom and assurance to accept your forgiveness when I have sinned against You or others. Keep me from being sad because I am not perfect, and help me to be glad because You are!
Amen.

Smile, You are in God's sight!
