THE NEED FOR JUSTICE

In Ezek. 16:49 and 50, we read, "Judah/Jerusalem and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease but did not aid the poor and needy.  They were haughty and did abominable things," said the Lord."

The Word of God given to the prophet Ezekiel emphasizes the abomination of those who go about in pride and selfishness and having excess, ignore the needs of those who have little or nothing.  God considers justice a central condition of following Him, because in God's eyes we are all poor, needy, forsaken, and alone.  He wants us to reach out and come to the aid of others as He has rescued us.

If I see others in need and do nothing about it, I cut myself off from a relationship with God.  He has no patience with me when  I consider myself before others.  This world is filled with injustice, and I must become aware of it, and do something about it.

Lord, open my heart to see the need for justice in those you bring to my attention.  Amen.

And may my words invite others to feel the same say, for the sake of our loving God.
