Mark 8:34 and Job 22:21, "You must forget about yourself...Surrender to God All-Powerful."
A writing by Weisgram says, "We are called to carry our own cross. That is the hardest thing, to carry our own true cross. This is giving up--surrendering to God All-Powerful that which our human soul does not want to submit."
"I think my own cross is to submit to God my so-called "right" to defend myself against that which I perceive to be an offense, injustice, or insult by another person. All I can do is turn the situation over to God, for I need God's help and His mercy, to be obedient to this submission. I hope there will be a loosening of that awful tie that binds my quick reactions and my defense mechanisms to my heart so that I will be able to carry my cross, this need to be defensive, with grace.
"God give me the heart to truly want to submit to you the rights to myself that I have for so long carried and coddled. Give me a sense of urgency to recognize my need to come to you and the discernment to do so. I have faith in your help and thank you in advance of that help. Amen."
And Lord, on this Halloween Day of 2015, I also ask for your safety in the lives of the countless children out tonight on their search of candy. And may they see more than goblins; may they see the hearts and smiles of those who love you. Amen.
