Matthew 3:17 says, "This is my own dear Son, and I am pleased with him."
"Here we have the Father speaking to the crowd watching as Christ is baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. Here He is, born as a man, yet the very Son of God. The sign of the Holy Spirit, seen as a dove, comes down and sits upon Jesus. Is this vision intended for the people? For John? Or for Jesus?
"Perhaps things, signs, of the Spirit are revealed for us, for those of us watching for God-signs. God's signs are not necessary for Jesus. He may have a memory of being God's very self! To trust in God and God's Son one does not have to be certain of these ambiguous facts. Jesus is the son of God! For me there is no question, only a curiosity to know more about Him.
"Thank you, God, for questions of curiosity. Even doubts would assure me of your love for us through your love for your Son. May all of us doubt, and receive the assurance only you can give. Amen."
In this time of world conflict, doubt bumps into us all of the time. Every newspaper or news release that comes, we hurry to read or listen. Help us to remember our own job, asked of us by the Father.....Love our neighbors as ourselves. Love yourself as loved by God. Love is the only Light one has in the darkness of Despair.
