In Deut. 8:14, 18 it tells us , "Do not exalt yourselves when things are going good and you live in fine houses and have good crops and fine herds, but remember it is from the Lord your God....For it is He who gives you the power to achieve wealth, not yourselves."
"Although these words were spoken by Moses to the Israelites in preparation for them to enter the land God promised them, they equally apply to us today. We must always remember that all the skills, intelligence,, etc. we have we did not earn but were given to us as God's gifts. If we begin to think with pride of all we've accomplished, God says, "Don't wave at the crowd! Remember always that you are my creation. I've created you to be used by me to bring light to the whole world, to help others find their way out of the darkness and despair of life."
We must take no personal pride by our accomplishments, but can only say, individually,"Thank you, Lord, for your gifts to me."
So, let's pray! Lord God, you are the potter. We are the clay. Use and form us as you wish. Amen.
How wonderful to say these words with you!
