In I Sam. 17:42 it tells us, "The Lord does not save by word and spear; the battle is the Lord's."
David spoke the above words to Goliath who had just ridiculed David. Goliath stood across the way from David, huge, with sword, spear, and total armor. David stood facing him, small but certain of God, his sling and five smooth stones in his hands. David understood that God was in charge, not the leaders and generals. This is the truth today, as well, the battle of life is the Lord's. The sooner we come to understand this, the sooner we can proclaim like David, "Relax! God's in charge!"
When we are faced with the impossible, we can with boldness proclaim, "This battle is the Lord's! I'm not in charge here; God is!" Then we can be relaxed and follow God's lead.
Lord, may we never forget--the battles are yours, not ours. Amen.
Are you with me?
