In Numbers 19:22 it tells us, "When you are unclean, everything you touch becomes unclean, and anyone who touches you will be unclean."
The Book of Numbers carries some pretty tough laws, and in the one above it even suggests that one's state of purity will affect another's state of purity if one is touched. But today, touched doesn't necessarily have to mean, "My hand touching yours." I think it can also refer to one's attitude, and there I find it to be absolutely true as one's attitude can and often does affect the mind of another.
Negativity quickly spreads one to another. But so does cheerfulness. What do you do when someone smiles at you? Probably, you smile right back. It's almost impossible not to! We may often choose not to be around someone who habitually uses negative thinking. It may have its place on occasion, but not about everything!
It is important to protect ourselves with prayer when we encounter negativity. First , to be open to another view but. secondly, to be a champion for positive thought. Pray that God will be with us with His love and respect that we might share that love and respect to those we encounter. Prayerfully thank God for the New Testament which carries the newer truth and understands the nature of God Himself. And thank Him for the Old which gives us God's history.
God, you know the truth and you are Truth. May we always show others our love and respect for you and for your Truth. Amen
