In mark 2:12b, we read, "They praised God and said, "We have never seen anything like this!"
Those who watched the miracle of a man picking up his mat and walking had never seen anything like it! It was a wonder, a miracle, one of those things where one would say, "How can this be?"
Ever watch a magician? Watched and wondered, "How did he do that?" "How can this be?" I have, and I bet you have, too. I've felt the wonder of seeing my first child right after her birth, and saying, "This is a wonder; too wonderful to be possible; she is my own miracle and I am holding her in my arms." I saw the joy of my own mother's love as she looked into my face just before she died; I had to wonder at so much love and knew it to always have been there for me.
But most of all I know the wonder of God's love when once again the world begins to think of Holy Week and I think, "Why would Christ die for us?" Yet I knew I would die for my own .
We have a way to go for Holy Week this year, but it's good to think of the wonder of God's love even with Holy Week a month of away. "Why would God die for us?" Why would we die for our own?
Love is wonderful. God's love is too wonderful, beyond measure. Have you known anything like this? "How can this be?"
God, may those who enter into your Presence or in the presence of Your Holy Spirit at any time or in any way, may they encounter You and praise You, and say, "I have never seen anything like this!" AMEN
