In Psalm 29:2 it tells us to "Honor the wonderful name of the Lord."
Some time ago, our grandson asked a surprising question, "What's all the fuss about Jesus' name? People say, "In the name of the Lord, " and I don't get it?'
The question he asked popped into my mind when I read the verse from the Psalms. I couldn't answer his question right away, as I don't always think so well when I need to. Now I might say, "If Barack Obama walked into the room, we would all stand and say, "Mr. President!" We don't necessarily honor the name Barack Obama. Nor do we honor him because we voted for him, or
because we agree with his decisions. In spite of how we feel about Barack Obama, we honor the position and the title of that position, "Mr. President."
So it is with God. In the least, we honor the position and by doing so, we honor the name of God, by whatever name we call God. As Christians, we honor Christ and his name, Jesus. In fact, we honor Christ by honoring His name. As we come to love God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, honoring God's name becomes very natural.
Lord, We pray this will be so for our children and grandchildren in their lifetimes. Amen.
