Mark 3:21 reads, "When the family of Jesus heard that the Jewish leaders were saying, "He has gone out of his mind," they went to try to convince Him to come home and stop what He was doing, for they were concerned for his safety and sanity."
It has been said by Jesus and repeated by others that a prophet is without honor in his own family or country. Jesus was so far beyond what they could have understood that even Mary, his mother, who had been foretold of what her son, Jesus, was to become, couldn't grasp it. As any mother would do, she wanted to protect her child from abuse and harm, even though now he was a grown man. His brothers and sisters, no doubt, heard ridicule and abuse about him and felt embarrassed. "Let's go get him and make him come home!" they may have agreed.
When things happen that we humans can't understand, we scoff and ridicule. Yet as Christians, we are called to have faith and follow, giving praise, glory and honor, even when it seems unfathomable. Perhaps, it should tell us that it is time to check our list of "What is a Christian Believer?" Check it and change; get it up to date!
Lord, help us to never dishonor the Name of Jesus, but to lift it up to all we encounter. Amen.
