Today's blog will also be for tomorrow. And it will come from Romans 6:3, saying, "All who share in Christ Jesus by being baptized also share in Christ's death."
If Christ's life had been a three act play, His baptism would be in the first act. This scripture is a bit troubling sometimes until we remember what happens in Act 3 of The Jesus Life: He was resurrected! If we are One with Christ in all things, it would seem that the very act of our baptism is the beginning of our dying to self. As we share in Christ's death to the extent that we accept all Christ is, was, and did and does, we do therefore, share in His death.
I think it is more likely that we become prepared for the acceptance of dying to self somewhere along in a second act, when we know that we are terribly human and will make all kinds of errors, or sins, and that God accepts us just as we are, warts and all. When we are ready, we will want to live for--and in--the Lord Jesus.
Perhaps we regret that there isn't some "ritual" to celebrate the death of self. Perhaps it would help to teach us the necessity for wanting more life in Jesus. Even more, than more! Let's pray for it!
Lord, help us to remember how worthy life is in You and that we might desire less of ordinary human things and more of Life in You. Amen.
I'll be back on 6/3 without fail!
