WE ARE RESCUED!

In Romans 7:24,25, it reads, "Wretched one that I am!  Who  will rescue me from this body of death?  Thanks be to God through Christ Jesus our Lord!"

Yes, we can be rescued by Christ!  In this chapter of Romans, Paul tells of the constant struggle between his seeking to be a Godly man, yet recognizing the power of the flesh in himself that takes him to a place where he does the very thing he doesn't want to do! (How well I know this!)  He declares that only through the saving grace of Jesus Christ can we humans be victorious.  We are unable on our own strength and skill to claim victory.  Jesus died and rose again to guarantee He would rescue us from the power of our own sin.

Personally, I have a tendency to become angry over some unimportant thing said or done by others which points out my imperfections.  I take these moments to the Lord, but only after I have already shown anger or annoyance.  Then, but only after the damage has been done, do I remember to go to the Lord! This is a truth and an embarrassment to me, and I continually pray for forgiveness for myself and for a new ability to call upon the Lord before I react in anger.

Jesus Christ alone, not me, will bring victory over my temptation.  Jesus Christ, not me, is my rescuer-- by His shed blood he throws me a life-saving ring to cling to when I finally realize I can't do it on my own.

Praise God, who will rescue us from temptation through His Son, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
