Amos 6:8 tells us,, "The Lord God has said, "I abhor the pride of Jacob (Israel).""
The primary thing that God hates and has spoken of throughout the ages is the sin of pride. God hates human pride! It takes God out of the place of centrality and places the human heart, full of ego, at the center. Pride says, "Look at what a good job I've done. Look how successful I am, and what power I have." The scripture again and again stresses the importance of having a humble heart that acknowledges... "Apart from God, "I am a lost, unholy nothing.""
Whenever I begin to "wave at the crowd," God shows me quickly that I'm not in control--He is! Very quickly the rug is pulled from under my feet and I fall flat on my behind--just where God wants me to be. God quickly gets my attention when I feel proud.
Sometimes it reverses. Pride will not let me admit that I have ordinary faults that need attention, and I feel hurt if someone points a fault out to me. God doesn't like that either, and I have to go to Him in shame, asking to be forgiven. Then, I can face the fault and try to improve my actions, with His help.
Either way, pride is my enemy, for the Love of God is my prime asset, and the reason I am on this earth. Pride will destroy that love, for God hates pride. Pride is the enemy of all; God, our friend. I am a friend of God.
