LIGHT AND LOVE...ALWAYS!

In Acts 6:15 we are told, "As all those who sat on the High Council looked at Stephen, they found they couldn't take their eyes off him--his face was like the face of an angel."

"Witnesses were bribed to speak against Stephen and they did.  But now, the council had to bring a guilty verdict against him, but his face was aglow with love and forgiveness!  Now what do they do?

"I love the tory of Stephen; he is one of my Bible heroes.  Imagine his sweet character, so sweet his face was like that of an angel's.  There are people like that today, but they are few and far between.  Most of us are ordinary, our faces not noticeably "angel-like" even when we're in church.  But once and awhile when we sing something like "Amazing Grace" there is a change in our faces.  Music can do that and prayer and communion, too.  God's love just warms us up and our faces glow.  It's as if God's finger has just reached out and touched us with light and power, and our faces glow with His touch.

"God,may we always feel your touch within us and may we glow with your light and love.  Amen."

And God, may we always see ourselves filled with You, for without you within us we are quite miserable!  We know, that with the very thought of you, you are there!  Thank you, Lord!

BE SMART, BUT RIGHT

In Luke 16:8, we hear, "The rich man commended his manager because he had acted shrewdly."  Jesus then says, "I want you to be smart for what is right using every adversity to stimulate you to creative survival, to concentrate your attention on the bare essentials, so you'll live, really live."  (The Message)

Jesus tells us, His followers, that we are to act shrewdly, but rightly, with money in the ways of the world so that others may share in our resources to ease their debt and hunger and come to know the grace of God.  Money is only a tool, a means to an end and is never to be an end in itself.  If it is, it will become our master, the  one whom we serve.  So, we must look at it as having a gift from God and re-give it to be used for God's glory and to  proclaim His Kingdom.  Lord, keep me from idolizing the money that we are given. Amen."

Lord Jesus, thank you for this lesson on the use of money, that money can be a tool to be used for Your continued Glory! Amen.

I'LL DO IT YOUR WAY

In Exodus 10:8 the people were begging to be given permission to leave Egypt, but the king was reluctant to lose them.  but, finally, "The king had Moses and Aaron brought back, and he said, "All right, you may go and worship the Lord your God, but first tell me who will be going."

"All right, but first.....
I'll obey, but.....
I agree, but...and my favorite, "Yeah, but.....

"Control.  there are many ways we express control.  An objection, clarification, negation--any or all might come after the words, "But first....." or words like it.  We may have a fair mind, we maybe capable of good decisions, but some decisions aren't up to us.  We may be getting better at keeping quiet but often we till hear ourselves saying, "O.K., but....."

"Things may not come up to our expectations and we can't seem to keep still!  But, who said we have any right to our expectations?  We might just as well say, "You're wrong, wrong, wrong!"  And that would really be wrong, unkind, and very stupid.

"Team work is the best way. That's what Jesus taught.  Do I think for a moment that Peter and Paul would have gotten along on Paul's mission trips? No, I don't think so.  That would have been...well, never mind.  Barnabas and Paul didn't always have their expectations met.  And their lives were changed, each of them in  their own way, for the better.

"Lord, Help us to recognize that our way may not be the best way.  Help those who work together to stifle their wish to say, "But first...."  And concede quietly to  Your way.  Amen."

YOU CAN'T DO IT ALONE

In Exodus 18:18 and 19, (Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, said to Moses as Moses was acting as a spiritual guide, judge, and decision-maker to the entire body of Jews involved in the Exodus from Egypt), "The task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.  Now, listen to me and I will give you counsel, and God be with you."

"This is often something that Godly people get caught up in--the feeling that we have to do everything ourselves.  It's up to us alone or it won't get done properly.  When Jesus sent out the disciples to go and preach, teach and heal he didn't send them out alone; he sent them out two by two.

"There are times when all Christians, especially pastors, youth leaders, or leaders of other ministries, feel they alone must do the job or it won't get done right, or won't get done at all.  This only leads to burn-out or dejection.  Jesus rarely calls us to work alone.  He calls us to be the Church, His Body and Spirit with flesh on, so that we can support and encourage one another.

"Lord Jesus, When we feel that we are trying to do it alone, ring a bell, and show us your way to share the load.  Amen."

It's hard to be a team when I am the typist and you are the reader.  But, Lord, when we do find an opportunity to work as a team  with someone, help us to see a way that we can share the load.  Amen.

And although you and I may never be face to face, we can look forward to knowing each other in Heaven!

LOVE IS A HOLY PLACE

Exodus 15:18 tells us, "The people you rescued were led by your powerful love to your Holy Place." These words describe what happened to the Israelites during that holy time, and it tells us what it was that led them to a more Holy place--God's powerful love.

"Led out of Egypt into the land of Israel, the people came to know God's love.  But what is it today that has come declaring our need for rescuing?  And to what Holy Place are we being rescued? Is it our selves that are unholy? Our world? Our attitudes?  And how must we be rescued?

"First of all we have Jesus' powerful love to help us to be Holy and the Red Sea does not need to split in two parts to show us a way to rescue.  The powerful love of Christ and Christ's Way is all the rescue we need, whether we are finding our way to a more holy place from despair, disease, disappointments, disillusion or disdain.  Christ's Way is the Way, the way of Love.

"Lord God, you have set us free to find our Lord Christ and follow Him to a more Holy place in our lives.  Help us to not stray away from your Way, as you have shown us, and help us to become more and more of  the loving, caring persons we desire to be without judgment or demands.  You who are Holy, help us to help others find their own Holy Place--in You.  Amen."

On a snowy day in January in a new year, on a new day, in a rich moment of time, we come to You, together. Amen.

STARTING AND ENDING WITH PRAYER

In Acts 1:14, we find a prayer meeting, where they are saying, "We agree we are in this for good,  completely together in prayer," the  women included, also Jesus' mother, Mary, and his brothers."

"In it for good, for the long haul, for whatever it takes--are we?  Yes, we are, for whatever it takes, we will be the Lord's!  We pray that those we love are in it, too- for whatever it takes.  The Holy Spirit is developing strong men and women of faith, loyal to the Lord Jesus, loyal to one another. We have a willingness to go the long haul.  We take risks for the good of community, providing fellowship for those who need it, love for all and opportunity for growth in all.  We worship with power and love and are pastored with wisdom and light.

"We don't want to be lazy or apathetic or tired.  We don't want to be ordinary. We want to be extraordinary, using love to encourage one another, as well as those who are new to the Lord Jesus.
We want everyone to taste the flavor of being extraordinarily God's own.

"But, Father, we need you to remind us that this all takes prayer. For as on that occasion long ago when the disciples were "completely together in prayer" waiting for the Holy Spirit to come, we, too, wait and pray ...for the Holy Spirit to further our growth in You."

We now know, Lord, that everything we do begins and ends in prayer.  From the start of our day to the finish, as we say our final goodnight, we depend on your guidance your assurance, your blessing, for when we say "Give us this day your daily bread," it is the bread of life, your Spirit, your self, that we need. You are our life. We live and breathe in You.

WHAT WE DESERVE

Looking at two passages today, both Exodus 6:8 and Luke 23: 15b and 41, we find "Let my people go,"  and "Indeed, he has done nothing to deserve death...We are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man (Jesus) has done nothing wrong."

"Did the Israelites deserve to be enslaved, whipped, and beaten ?  Did Jesus "deserve" to be crucified? Do we "deserve" to have pain, sorrow, and trouble in our lives?  Did we "deserve" the 9/11 attack on our land?  Do we "deserve" the attacks now made against the world by those who would have us dead or under their power?

"The stories of the Old and New Testaments are there to show us that we don't necessarily get what we "deserve," but that God can use our pain and suffering for His glory.  Most of the time we humans cry out, "Why me, God?" and "What did I ever do to deserve this?" Yet the stories in scripture show God is in control and God Wins!  But at the time we go through it, it sure doesn't seem like He's winning over evil or pain or suffering and death.  We may not see the win but it is there somewhere, as promised in Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good for those who love the Lord."

Because Jesus promised eternal life to all who confess, "Jesus is Lord," perhaps we will see the "win" in eternity. Let us hope someday we will see...and understand more clearly.

"Lord, we thank you for this lesson; help us to understand it.  And Lord, we thank you that we don't always receive what we sometimes really deserve.  Amen."

WAIT FOR THE LIGHT!

In Genesis 5:21, 23b we hear the people saying, "We hope the Lord will punish both of you for making the king and his official hate us.  Now they even have an excuse to kill us!"  And later, in the book of Luke , we find Jesus adding to our concern by saying, "This is your time, and darkness is in control."  What?  Must we expect to live in darkness, hate, and killing?

And, at this much later time, there seems to some similarity to Biblical times with the conditions  in the world today.  There are  people reigning in some places who desire to kill, even obliterate, those of us in the free world.  And where does that put us?  In a very tight place!  What must we do?  What have we done before when we were in tight places?  What must we do now?  Lets look at what we have done previously when things seemed to have no real answer.

Jerry's answer to how he felt and what to do when in a tight place are in his words...."When I am put in a tight place, many times I have felt,  "Where is God in this?  God seems to be provoking my situation!" And sometimes things even start to get worse and I wonder, "I've prayed!  I've done all I know to do!  Why doesn't God help?  Where are you, God?"(And Jerry continues...)

"The passages I've chosen today reveal to me my impatience and my lack of trust.  I am like the Israelites!  The Israelites saw their situation go from bad to worse with the king and mistrusted and feared their circumstances.  Although they despaired of their situation and became highly anxious to leave Egypt, they didn't realize that God had let darkness be in control, in order to destroy the king at the final moment.  No Israelite was left behind in the darkness and they had high incentives to leave."

We all have Egypt -moments, too.  Everyone does.  We live in a time of great fear and mistrust of those whom we do not know.  Jerry has them, too, more-so in the past than now, in spite of these trust-less ones around the world.  Years ago, he stated this: "Yes, I have Egypt-moments and attitudes.  But I shall remember that sometimes I must let darkness be in control until God is ready to shine His light.  Please remind me of this, Lord, should I need it. Amen."

And I pray that God will remind you reading this and me as well, in this day and time, for He will always win in the final moments of any hour.  God will always be the ultimate victor. Always!  Praise Him!!

REVISION OF PSALM 88:3-18

"Although I am deeply troubled, yes, close to death, completely helpless, I remember that life is better than death, for you do not forget me; you will help me.  Although I feel dead and buried because you are angry with me and I have turned my friends against me, I shall escape from this prison and turn a blind eye to my sorrow.

"I LIFT MY HANDS IN PRAYER TO YOU, O LORD.
Only you can work the miracle of forgiveness in those who are the walking dead.
Only you can lift us up to stand tall, to raise our hands in praise and song.
Only your love can bring life to us once again.
Your loyalty touches us with your saving power.
We will see the miracle in our dark, forgotten worlds.
And once again feel your warmth and light.

Yes, each morning I  pray to you, Lord, and try not to fear your rejection although I deserve your turning from me.
I choose to become well and alive through your great power and grace.
I refuse to be terrified, but seek you with joyful anticipation, confident of your help.
Yes, I recognize and deserve your anger; I am humbled and grateful for your correction given because of your love for me.
Darkness has been my companion, but I turn to your light.
Please accept me again that I may be obedient to your call and serve you with my love.

Lord Jesus, This psalm originated before you came to this earth.  Knowing you, Jesus, would keep me from Psalm 88's original total despair.  I hope you will be honored by this re-writing; it is meant to honor you.  Amen.

To my friends of blog-land:  This revision was written to help me always turn to God when I found myself in a dark place without God.  I hope you will find it useful in your walk with our Lord.

GOD'S PLANS ARE BEST

In Genesis 50:20,21, Joseph tells his brothers, ""Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to  preserve a numerous people as He is doing today.  So have no fear of retribution from me."

" How often we see this in today's world as we look back in hindsight.  At the time of occurrence many things look like worst possible events, but eventually they turn out to be blessings in disguise.  God works in ways that we do not understand. He unravels complications that outwardly look like an impossible mess.  And, lo and behold, good things come from what at first appears to be a calamity.

"When God leads us down a path that appears to us to be unfortunate, we must trust, no matter how difficult, that God knows beyond our ability to see how it will  work for His glory.

"Lord, when you lead us where we may not want to go, give us your power to move forward, with you.  Amen."

(Dear Reader, I hope you are with me in this exciting endeavor!)

THE LORD NEEDS IT!

Luke 19:31 tells us, "If anyone asks why you are doing that, just say, "The Lord needs it."

"Jesus needed a young donkey to ride into Jerusalem  on the day that has become known as Palm Sunday, and he sent a couple of disciples after it. No Problem!  The man was right there with his donkey; no questions were asked.  Sometimes we're asked, "Why do you do it?" in reference to serving others.  People become perplexed and shake their heads.  Well, perhaps the perfect answer to that question would be, "Because the Lord needs it."

"No matter what it is we do, we do it because Christ loves us and has told us to love our neighbor as ourselves.  Sometimes I wonder why Christ doesn't call on us even more, as we have been given so much and have more time than busy young families.  And we have prayed for the mind and heart of Christ, so whatever we see to do, it seems to me, is something the Lord needs to have done. Why would I refuse the Lord?  Jesus has refused me nothing.

"God, no one can out-give you. You never ask to be repaid for all you give us.  All you ask is that we love you and our neighbors.  Help us to recognize what you need, for you desire nothing except what is truly needed to help this world know and love you.  By our service, we pray others might know you, God.  Amen."

Are we still  looking for what our Lord needs?  I pray that is the truth!

DIFFICULT, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE

Luke 18:24 tells us, "Jesus said to the rich young ruler, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the Kingdom of God."

"Whoa, Nellie!  "Does that mean if you are rich you cannot go to Heaven?"  No, that is not what it means!

"In this teaching the words of Jesus are often taken to mean that very thing.  However, Jesus really only said that it would be hard, not impossible.  The reason it is hard is that when someone has acquired wealth it becomes a stumbling bock that causes the possessor to not want to yield it to God.  Humanly we want to have the sense of security that we feel from a healthy bank account, good health, happy marriages, good children, fine jobs, freedom, etc.

"As long as we hold tightly to a life's desire for the "things of this world," God cannot enter in.  We basically padlock the door to our hearts.  Only when we can say to Jesus, "I came as a destitute sinner without merit," can Jesus begin to work in us.

"Lord Jesus, we thank you that we can set aside all our possessions as a gift from you and not have them under our control.  If we argue, pry them out of our hands, Lord.  Amen."

I hope we are in agreement about this, friends!  We need the support of each other on this one!

THE GIFT WITH A RED BOW

Luke's story of the Prodigal Son in the Book of Luke is wonderful, for we are each prodigals ourselves, one way or another. Luke  15:21,22 from the Message reads "I don't deserve to be called your son ever again...but the father wasn't listening."  These words were spoken just after the Prodigal Son returned home after a long time away

No, the father wasn't listening!  He was too full of joy at having his son returned.  His joy covered his son's shame.  We can only hope that the son had another, more quiet moment to express to his father his shame for it is most important to the cleansing of the son's soul.  The words "you are forgiven" or "I forgive you" are most important to say and to hear.

One can assume forgiveness in the father's home by the joy and celebration that ensued in the above story.  We can assume forgiveness came by the joy and celebration that ensued on that long-ago day.  But the words said are vastly important to the  sinner for he or she will have a hard time getting over the shame. The words, therefore, "Please forgive me!" must be spoken, answered by the words, "I forgive you!"  Both sets of words must be spoken, and both statements are true gifts, gifts that must be given and also, received. Forgiveness asked is a desired gift, and repentance acknowledged, also a gift.  Together these gifts are the equivalent of being wrapped up in a red bow, the joy that follows reconciliation.

And it is finished.  Done.  It is over and you never have to think of it again.  That's what Jesus did for us:  he hung for our sins, died, and rose again.  Grace given; grace received.  There is not a harder way to be forgiven; it's a way only God could grant.

"Father, Most Holy God, I beg your forgiveness for my sins known and unknown.  Thank you for the promise of forgiveness and for the grace you showed us on the cross of Jesus.  Amen.

GOODBYE KISSES

Luke 14:33 tells us, "Simply put, if you're not willing to take what is dearest to you, whether plans or people, and  kiss it goodbye, you can't be my disciple." (The Message)

"The clue to the meaning of the above is the word "willing."  We must be willing to give up what is dear to us.  If Jesus comes between me and my husband, Jerry, or my children, I choose Jesus.  If Jesus comes between what I long to see happen in my children's lives and Jesus, I choose Jesus.  If Jesus comes between me and my love of peace and justice, I choose Jesus.

"Now, I can't imagine how these events might occur.  By that I mean, I can not think  of any event that would ask me to choose.  But this I know, nothing is more important to me than  pleasing God and the only way I know to do that is to love God by staying in touch with Him always and by showing love to others.  If there is someone I am asked to love that is hard for me to love, I promise I will love that person in spite of myself, as that is loving as Jesus loved.  If I am asked to do something that would be hard for me to do, I promise I will do it, in order to please my Lord and Savior."

If those reading this are of like mind, I am grateful for your promises.  Let us pray that the Lord will help us to keep these promises.  All we truly want is you, Lord, and to please you.  Amen.

I am so grateful for your companionship.  What joy you bring to me, my friends!

GOD'S PROTECTIVE WINGS

Luke 13:34 speaks loudly to us in the voice of Jesus, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to it.  How often I have desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing."

"This statement mirrors the longing a parent often feels for his or her child, a desire to gather and protect him or her from the evils of this world  But the child rejects and says, "I must learn on my own." As a parent, one must know the pitfalls and temptations that children will face in this world, and wish we could save and protect them from consequential mistakes.  Jesus feels this same way for each of us, His children.

"As I have watched our own children grow and go out there facing the "world," many times I have wanted to draw them into my arms to protect them.  Yet I know that they must each learn for themselves to have their free choice of whether to accept or reject the warm protective arms of Jesus from the wiles of Satan.  I find myself wishing I could convey to them what I've discovered to  prevent their pain from poor decisions.  Yet I accept that God has no grandchildren.  We each must come to Him, alone, as a lonely child might come.

"Lord, I thank you for calling us individually to your arms as a hen draws in and protects her chicks.  Amen."

Still feel that way today towards the great-grandchildren on up.    Never goes away. But, my heart rejoices to see and know that faith in God has entered each one!

OUR UTMOST

Luke 12:48b states, "If God has been more than generous (with us), God will expect us to serve Him even better."

God has been more than generous with me, and, probably, with you as well.  Here is my list: He's given me a wonderful husband  in Jerry who has put up with my idiosyncrasies.  He's given me children who love me and have shown me their love even after they have their own families.  He's given me loving grandchildren, and even a couple of adorable great-grands. He's given me a doggie that kisses, friends that miss me when I'm away and a God that is always there for me.

But, perhaps the best form of generosity to me is that God corrects, yet His correction is a gift, teaching me through His correction.  God forgives me and leads me to a better place.  God even hung on a cross until death, for me, that I might be forgiven of any sin I may ever commit.  Those who do not believe that He died for them, too, are to be pitied for they cannot seem to accept that kind of love.

How can I even begin to serve God as God is entitled?  No matter what I give in return for God's love, I cannot out-give the Master Giver.  The only way I can serve God properly is to make sure my motives are right, my attitude is loving, and my goodness free.

Help me, Lord , to give my utmost. Amen.

THE MYSTERIOUS WAYS OF GOD

Oh, how we try to be obedient to God, but sometimes, God works in mysterious ways! In Genesis 28:13 it tells us "The Lord said to Jacob, even though he had received the blessing from his father which had been intended for the elder brother, Esau, God would richly bless him and make him and his offspring a blessing to all the earth."

Scripture records that God allowed Jacob to take Esau's birthright and blessing from Isaac by deceit.  Now why would God do that? We might ask why God would not follow the traditional path of the eldest son to receive the blessing, goods and authority, and Esau was the eldest son. And yet we see God again and again turning the world's traditions upside down using the least person to be exalted and not the most likely person.  Jesus even said, "The least shall be first and the first last."

When we try to understand God, some of us, like me, can only make a feeble attempt based on our human skills and understanding.  Yet, I know and am glad that God is a God of surprises.  Because God's ways are not our ways, we must wait for God's revelation.  I may be called to do something, but usually, my call is to "Relax!  God's in charge." So, I watch and wait for God's surprising ways.

Lord God, we thank you that our hearts are at peace about letting you be in charge.  Please believe that our willingness to step up is only bested by our desire to be obedient.  Amen.

Bless all who read this, Lord, and especially bless those who have chosen to follow you.

WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?

"Once when Jesus was praying alone, with only his disciples near him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"  They answered, "John the Baptist, but others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen."  Jesus then said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "You are the Messiah of God."" (Luke 9:18-20)

This is the defining question of the New Testament.  On this question and answer all else hinges.  If  Jesus is not who he says he is, there is no reason to follow Him.  We should simply look for another way to guide our lives.  If he is not divine he's the biggest liar that ever lived.  If he was just a 'good" man or a prophet, he would then be totally false and  proved a liar.

Our faith hinges on our answer to Jesus, "Who do you, Jerry, Jo, or you the reader, say that I am?"  My confession is simply, "You are the Christ, the Messiah, sent from God!"

Lord God, we praise you that our hearts sing with joy to proclaim your divinity!  Amen.

If you, too, say that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, sent from God...Well, Praises to the King!!

TO GIVE IS JOY

In Luke 8:46 we find Jesus insisting, "Someone touched me.  I felt power discharging from me."

"The kind of power discharged from Jesus in this verse is power much different from ours, but it is still applicable to us and others of Jesus' people. No matter what skills we might each have or no matter in what way Jesus may use us for His glory, there will be something like power we must use.  No matter how willing, no matter how delighted we may be in the giving, just by the very nature of giving away, we are reduced.  There will be some sort of sacrifice, a giving of self, an offering of sorts.  Energy dispensed is a loss for one in order for an increase in another.

"However, when something is given in the name of Jesus, the lessening is not felt.  In the strange nature of giving, there comes an even stranger experience of being filled, like the miraculous pitcher that never empties.  The filling then becomes felt, and what can you name it but "joy?"

Thank you, God, for this gift of joy.  Amen.

No matter what the day or the hour or the circumstance, this truth is always the same. Thanks be to God.

BLESS, LOVE, AND PRAY

Luke 6:27 and 28 takes us to Jesus who says to all, "But I say to you who listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you."  (Now aren't those words to chill our hearts in these days of ISIS enemies!)

These words of Jesus are some of the most difficult for humans to realistically do.  When we are abused or hated, our natural human inclination is to retaliate in word and deed.  (Bring in the big bombs!) How can we possibly in real life bless them?  Only through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives in us.  He is there!  If we are not walking with Jesus we have no power to love our enemies and pray for them.

When we're faced with the horror  of events like 9/11/2001, only God in our hearts can cause us to pray for those who did such evil, or will continue to do evil as was done that day.  I acknowledge I would find it hard to pray for someone who had killed or raped my family.(Jerry's thoughts)  Yet Jesus says, "If you would be my disciple you have to be different than what the world would expect."  He says to me, "Jerry, you must pray for those who curse you and abuse you and yours."

Lord Jesus, This is a very hard teaching for us.  Give us your power of forgiveness for those who abuse us, as you have forgiven us for our abuse of you.  Amen.

GOD AND ME TIME

In Luke 5:15 and 16 we find "Large crowds came to listen to Jesus teach and to be healed of their diseases.  But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray."

"It's fairly easy to have twenty minutes of silence alone with God if you're willing to get up early, but it would be also nice to have people listen to you in rapt attention.  I wonder, though, if I would choose wisely and choose the twenty minutes alone with God over the attention of orating to a crowd or even a small group.  I doubt that I could turn away from the temptation of being adored by a crowd of people holding on to my every word.  It would be like a dream come true to be respected and honored by that kind of listening to my words!!  But I know deep inside which scenario gives the greater benefit; it is the time alone with God.

"Jesus received his energy and power to heal and teach while alone with God.  I, on the other hand, need those times alone with God to have any holiness at all.  Without that "God and me" time, I would be unable to serve even one of the lost of the world, as I would be among the lost myself.

Lord Jesus, I need you.  Nudge me to continue the "God and me time", forever. AMEN

I am honored to be able to write this blog.  I have no knowledge of any one who might read it even once, let alone daily. So, I write for Jesus that He might acknowledge my love for Him, even on these pages written in hope that another unknown friend hungry for God's love might someday find my words and respond to them, with Jesus finding one more to know His love.

And if that never should happen, God knows, at least, that I love Him as I write these words.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE POWER OF GOD

Luke 4:32.34, "His teaching amazed (the people) because he spoke with power."
(And the man with the evil spirit said,) "Hey!  Jesus of Nazareth! What do you want with us?  Are you here to get rid of us?  I know who you are!  You are God's Holy One!"

"Most of the people were amazed at Jesus' speaking power, but this man with an evil spirit knew why Jesus was so powerful. He was God's Holy One.  This man made no bones about it.  Jesus was the Holy One. This man only voiced his fear, "What do you want with us?  To get rid of us?"   Other people were amazed with Jesus, yet they voiced no fear.  Yet, they probably did fear.  They may have thought, "This Jesus speaks with power and authority and heals the sick and raises the dead.  What must he want of me?"

"Well, Jesus will ask something of us.  He will ask for everything, but by the time He asks it of us, we are willing to give it out of love and grace, for that is what He gives us day, after day, after day.

"God, help us to always desire to ask you, in love, "What do you want of me today?  I am yours.  Do with me as you like!  AMEN."

TOO HARD!

In Genesis 4:13,"Cain said to the Lord, "My punishment is greater than I can bear!" Cain had taken the life of his brother, Abel, and the Lord punished Cain by exiling him from his homeland.

"When we sin against God and disobey His commandments, we often fail to "count the cost." We do, in a moment's time something that will have lifelong and eternal consequences.  When we are "called on the carpet" by God or man's law, we whine and moan and groan and cry out, "This punishment is too hard; it is more than I can bear!  Relieve my suffering, Lord.  I  can't stand this!"

"When we err, we must first understand that there will be consequences to pay, even though as I repent I know God will forgive me.  It doesn't remove the consequences, however, which are often played out in our lives here on earth."

Lord God, help us each one to keep our eyes on you, that we can avoid the sins and errors of this life.  But, help us to remember if we do err, that you are right in stepping in to remind us that we must take the consequences of our errors.  Help us to see your Spirit at work in us and those around us, that we might never turn away from your face or your actions in our lives.  Amen.

I pray that our lives in Christ may never seem too hard, for with Christ we always win.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD

With a New Year beginning, let us look at Luke 1:37, "Nothing is impossible with God."  God as Creator brought forth the earth and all that is in it, including humans.  He later created John the Baptist and Jesus for His glory and revelation.

We must always remember this truth:  with God, all things are possible.  When we see no way out of some mysterious dilemma, we have God's assurance that He has a plan.  Not all plans have to do with us individually, but when they do, He tells us that we need to never give up in despair as He's in charge.  Therefore, we can relax and not be fearful.  Thank you, God for your divine Creation.

And to celebrate this new beginning of this new year, let's also look at Luke 1:47..."I am glad because of God my Savior." Mary's condition of her heart was, "I am glad,"  Let's let our hearts be glad, too.  Gladness is joy.  I want to let joy fill my heart whether I am with family or hear good news about my family.   So, even if I am alone and we are together only in mind, I want to be joyful.  And I can be, because of my Savior.  Like Mary, I am glad simply because of the existence of God.  God's Spirit gives such peace that wherever I am or whatever I do, I am glad. Bird song, blue bells, snow angels, playing ball with the dog--each brings the presence of God.

Thank you, Lord God, for the peace that surpasses all understanding.  On this first day of the New Year, I re-dedicate my life to you.
