Luke 14:33 tells us, "Simply put, if you're not willing to take what is dearest to you, whether plans or people, and kiss it goodbye, you can't be my disciple." (The Message)
"The clue to the meaning of the above is the word "willing." We must be willing to give up what is dear to us. If Jesus comes between me and my husband, Jerry, or my children, I choose Jesus. If Jesus comes between what I long to see happen in my children's lives and Jesus, I choose Jesus. If Jesus comes between me and my love of peace and justice, I choose Jesus.
"Now, I can't imagine how these events might occur. By that I mean, I can not think of any event that would ask me to choose. But this I know, nothing is more important to me than pleasing God and the only way I know to do that is to love God by staying in touch with Him always and by showing love to others. If there is someone I am asked to love that is hard for me to love, I promise I will love that person in spite of myself, as that is loving as Jesus loved. If I am asked to do something that would be hard for me to do, I promise I will do it, in order to please my Lord and Savior."
If those reading this are of like mind, I am grateful for your promises. Let us pray that the Lord will help us to keep these promises. All we truly want is you, Lord, and to please you. Amen.
I am so grateful for your companionship. What joy you bring to me, my friends!
