GOD'S PROTECTIVE WINGS

Luke 13:34 speaks loudly to us in the voice of Jesus, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to it.  How often I have desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing."

"This statement mirrors the longing a parent often feels for his or her child, a desire to gather and protect him or her from the evils of this world  But the child rejects and says, "I must learn on my own." As a parent, one must know the pitfalls and temptations that children will face in this world, and wish we could save and protect them from consequential mistakes.  Jesus feels this same way for each of us, His children.

"As I have watched our own children grow and go out there facing the "world," many times I have wanted to draw them into my arms to protect them.  Yet I know that they must each learn for themselves to have their free choice of whether to accept or reject the warm protective arms of Jesus from the wiles of Satan.  I find myself wishing I could convey to them what I've discovered to  prevent their pain from poor decisions.  Yet I accept that God has no grandchildren.  We each must come to Him, alone, as a lonely child might come.

"Lord, I thank you for calling us individually to your arms as a hen draws in and protects her chicks.  Amen."

Still feel that way today towards the great-grandchildren on up.    Never goes away. But, my heart rejoices to see and know that faith in God has entered each one!
