Oh, how we try to be obedient to God, but sometimes, God works in mysterious ways! In Genesis 28:13 it tells us "The Lord said to Jacob, even though he had received the blessing from his father which had been intended for the elder brother, Esau, God would richly bless him and make him and his offspring a blessing to all the earth."
Scripture records that God allowed Jacob to take Esau's birthright and blessing from Isaac by deceit. Now why would God do that? We might ask why God would not follow the traditional path of the eldest son to receive the blessing, goods and authority, and Esau was the eldest son. And yet we see God again and again turning the world's traditions upside down using the least person to be exalted and not the most likely person. Jesus even said, "The least shall be first and the first last."
When we try to understand God, some of us, like me, can only make a feeble attempt based on our human skills and understanding. Yet, I know and am glad that God is a God of surprises. Because God's ways are not our ways, we must wait for God's revelation. I may be called to do something, but usually, my call is to "Relax! God's in charge." So, I watch and wait for God's surprising ways.
Lord God, we thank you that our hearts are at peace about letting you be in charge. Please believe that our willingness to step up is only bested by our desire to be obedient. Amen.
Bless all who read this, Lord, and especially bless those who have chosen to follow you.
