In Exodus 18:18 and 19, (Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, said to Moses as Moses was acting as a spiritual guide, judge, and decision-maker to the entire body of Jews involved in the Exodus from Egypt), "The task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone. Now, listen to me and I will give you counsel, and God be with you."
"This is often something that Godly people get caught up in--the feeling that we have to do everything ourselves. It's up to us alone or it won't get done properly. When Jesus sent out the disciples to go and preach, teach and heal he didn't send them out alone; he sent them out two by two.
"There are times when all Christians, especially pastors, youth leaders, or leaders of other ministries, feel they alone must do the job or it won't get done right, or won't get done at all. This only leads to burn-out or dejection. Jesus rarely calls us to work alone. He calls us to be the Church, His Body and Spirit with flesh on, so that we can support and encourage one another.
"Lord Jesus, When we feel that we are trying to do it alone, ring a bell, and show us your way to share the load. Amen."
It's hard to be a team when I am the typist and you are the reader. But, Lord, when we do find an opportunity to work as a team with someone, help us to see a way that we can share the load. Amen.
And although you and I may never be face to face, we can look forward to knowing each other in Heaven!
