In Luke 8:46 we find Jesus insisting, "Someone touched me. I felt power discharging from me."
"The kind of power discharged from Jesus in this verse is power much different from ours, but it is still applicable to us and others of Jesus' people. No matter what skills we might each have or no matter in what way Jesus may use us for His glory, there will be something like power we must use. No matter how willing, no matter how delighted we may be in the giving, just by the very nature of giving away, we are reduced. There will be some sort of sacrifice, a giving of self, an offering of sorts. Energy dispensed is a loss for one in order for an increase in another.
"However, when something is given in the name of Jesus, the lessening is not felt. In the strange nature of giving, there comes an even stranger experience of being filled, like the miraculous pitcher that never empties. The filling then becomes felt, and what can you name it but "joy?"
Thank you, God, for this gift of joy. Amen.
No matter what the day or the hour or the circumstance, this truth is always the same. Thanks be to God.
