In Amos 8:11, it tells us: "I, the Lord, also promise you a terrible shortage, but not of food and water. You will hunger and thirst to hear my Message."
What would it be like to not hear or read the Word of God? It would be comfortless to not hear the Psalms; hopeless to not read Job; despairing to not read of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Would we forget what God is like if we couldn't read the Word? Would we forget how to pray or forget to pray altogether if we had no Word to remind us of the blessings God can give and the need of God in the world? Would we have new songs to sing if the lyricist could not refer to God's Word? would we bother to go to church if there was no scripture and no messages from it? What would our lives be like if we could not base them upon the Word of God? How could we support one another with words of encouragement if we were not sure what they were, counting on the Word of God to reveal that which is encouraging, right, and good? How could the Holy Sprit lead without the Word HE recommends?
We would be hungry and thirsty indeed.
Thanks be to God for our Holy Bible, and all its versions, in spite of all, still the most perfect revelation of our God. AMEN.
Jo INMN
