Hebrews 6:1b says, "We shouldn't need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God."
OK, so I won't!
I am going to turn to happy things: getting something written that will please all our friends near and far at this coming great time of the year, the celebration of our Lord's birth. Yes. you guessed it: Christmas Cards! We'll try to get a picture taken to prove we're still alive! And let others know that we have moved--once again!
But with all of the notorious killings, gun use by inappropriate folks, and harsh words thrown about by those who we are supposed to choose for our nation's leadership, I think there should be some--a few--words to settle us down in a practical way.
We are called to love one another and love God. I think loving God first, and always, helps us to love one another. Actually, loving God is an absolute to loving others. This is hard to remember when fear is upon us. So, I suggest we think of words short and sweet. What do you think?
"Be still and know that I am God."
" Be still and know that I am."
"Be still and know."
"Be still."
"Be."
By the time we finish repeating the above, we will no longer be afraid. We will be One with God, holding His hand. Without fear....Without questioning whom we are to love....Without wondering who to worship. God says, "Worship only me." God says, "Love one another."
Remember: "We" means everyone! "One another," means you and everyone else. It might be hard to do, but with the help of God, WE CAN!
