BEING IN GOD'S SERVICE

John 16:2b says, "Whoever kills you (who believes in me) will think that he offers God service."


"As I read this, and perhaps as you read it, we can't help but think of the young Muslims who eagerly blow up themselves to kill Westerners and those who assist the West toward democracy. Having just recently seen this in Paris and other spots in the world, even touching the U.S., we are quite aware of the problem.  In their minds, all Westerners are evil, and perhaps it is thought all Westerners are Christian.  In their zeal they believe they are dying in God's service, even worshipping God by their acts. Christians who profess their faith are killed by those of other beliefs, as well, because of the belief that Christianity should be eradicated.


"When  I, Jerry, confess and live for Jesus, I can expect to be persecuted, perhaps even killed on His behalf.  As Jesus gave love to me, so I must openly give love to Him by loving others as He loved, so that the world might see love, not this hatred that kills. This will be our greatest task, to love those who hate us.  We will need the heart of Jesus Christ to do this.  


Lord, We give you praise that you have called us to love, being yours  in service.  Help us to show your love to those who hate us.  Guide us, teach us, and do not leave our side.  Amen.
