In James 4:11and 12, we read, "If you condemn others, you are condemning God's Law. And if you condemn the Law, you put yourself above God's Law and refuse to obey either it or God who gave it....What right do you have to condemn anyone?"
What does this mean? What does it mean to "condemn someone?" the dictionary says several things: judge, convict, doom, and blame. So if you judge another, you are judging God's law to not judge. Putting yourself above God's law, and refusing to obey God's law is refusing to obey God who gave it.
This puts quite a different wrinkly on judging. It's not just thinking something isn't quite perfect about another person--or one's self--it's doing something that might really be harmful to one's
relationship with God. If my mind goes to a quick judgment, I must just as quickly remind myself of the injustice I do to that person and to God and must then thank God for the individual and trust God in that person.
God, Help me to relinquish the human satisfaction of judging another or myself. Forgive me for past judgments and keep me seeing the God part of others that I may not have looked for in the past. Keep me from having this very wrong spirit. Amen.
God is AT WORK in us!
