In I Peter 4:111b we learn "Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen."
This short prayer follows Peter's order to all the new Christians to use the special gifts God gave them in service to others and to honor God. The words are also meant for us today.
There was a time in the past where I was so concerned that people like me and God being pleased with me, that my motive for serving God was definitely questionable. Serving God was a very real desire for me but the selfish motive was disappointing.
Today, I feel pretty content as I understand love and trust. Those around me have God's love in them and the power of the Holy Spirit shares that love with me--and for me. I didn't earn that love by my service to God, or any other way. I didn't earn it at all. It was freely given. And I can serve others with love. And that's all that's needed.
Lord Jesus, may I continue to serve with love through you to my neighbors, friends, and my dear family, and may my friends out there receive these gifts as well. May we use these gifts you are giving us for your purpose to love our neighbors, sharing that love with the entire world. May our love honor You and bring You glory. Amen.
