Today is the 84th birthday of my husband, Jerry. I repeat his writing, written long ago, because of its value to us today, and for its strength and purpose. If you have just wandered into the reading of this blog for the first time, I hope it will have value to you......
In the writings of a New Testament hero, Peter, we read the following: 2 Peter 2:20 says, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way; and the Lord God has laid on Himself the inequity of us all..as He poured out Himself unto death." There are some who have escaped the entanglements of the world through knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then have once again become entangled and overpowered by the world.
And the prophet Isaiah, speaking the Lord's words, said that humanity is "like a flock of sheep". We start to follow the shepherd, but then we drift off and away from the shepherd and are once again lost.
Jesus came into the world to have the weight of sin placed on Him. He was crucified like a common criminal, died, and rose again. Our shepherd once and for all has conquered the lure of the world and Satan's clutch. But, we still have free will, as do sheep, to leave the flock and go off on our own tangent.
Having been a parent of a child who loved God, was lost, and came back to His flock, these verses speak to me as one who has longed for the lost one, and grateful for the lamb's return.
Jesus, keep us in your flock with the warmth and strength of your arms around us. Amen.
Happy Birthday, my sweet husband, and many more!
Jo INMN
