In Isaiah 50:4 and 5, the Word tells us, "The Lord God gives me the right words to encourage the weary. Each morning H awakens me eager to learn His teaching; He made me willing to listen and not rebel or run away." And Isaiah did listen. His words were given into the Holy Bible.
In the margin of my own bible, at this verse, I have written, "Jo! Listen!" I don't know how long ago I wrote this, but it would have to have been years ago. The fact remains that deep within I have hoped that the Lord would help me in all ways to be an encourager of others. Phone calls to the weary, visiting those who were lonely, reading to the elderly were part of my life.
Today, I find I am among the elderly, and those who have a thing called early Alzheimers. I can still write my blog, probably more helpful to me than to others! My dear husband, Jerry, has been identified to have this disease, too, and so we are an interesting couple! But I can still use the phone to call others, and I can still read to someone who might want to listen. Only God is in charge of my usefulness and I am willing. My ears and eyes are open.
God, I pray you have put this disease and this desire in me for a divine reason, that in the privilege of using encouragement for others you might be honored and glorified. May we all find peace and strength, Lord, in You. Amen.
In these days, we must all use the energy and strengths we have, for the Glory of God! Are you with me?
